March is looking like quite the socially busy month, with a number of local events set up to keep us all very entertained. One interesting event of note is the Love me better seminar that will be taking place here at the Mountain inn this weekend. Not sure what it’s all about? We got Mbali Nxumalo, founder of FashionDashCouture and co-host of the seminar to unpack the event and give us the low-down of how they plan on merging fashion and self-love on March 2nd.
Who Is Mbali?
Mbali Nxumalo is a Fashion Entrepreneur who holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Accounting Major, but has a passion for fashion hence starting the clothing brand called FashionDashCouture. I was born and bred in the Kingdom of Eswatini and spent my adulthood in the capital, Mbabane. FashionDashCouture is a clothing brand which provides beautiful Ready-To-Wear pieces for the modern sophisticated woman.
Fashiondashcouture the Brand
The brand is a passion business, inspired by my love for beautiful and unique pieces. The idea behind it was to be able to express my personal sense of style while incorporating the modern everyday woman. As cliché as it sounds, but when a person looks good, then they feel good, and at FDC we aim to be a part of those special moments every other day. The brand has an online store www.fashiondashcouture.com from which people from all over the world can shop.
FDC Style Inspiration
Our garments are mainly inspired by what we feel women want to wear on an everyday basis; whether it is for a corporate role or a more casual one. We want women to be able to find a garment that well meets their needs. We also get a lot of inspiration from local and international fashion trends, although ours is to make timeless pieces rather than just fast fashion. We tend to focus a lot on intrinsic details of the garment, with a highlight being placed on one or two features of the garment such as a sleeve, buttons, added lace etc, to give the everyday-look a more sophisticated feel.
Love Me Better Seminar
The idea is the brain child of Makaziwe Mhlophe (Co-founder of PadDriveSD NGO) and I. The idea came about because we saw the need to create interactive spaces, not just between women, but men as well. I believe self-love is the best form of love that one can ever experience, but one that we sadly tend to ignore in favour of wanting love from others. The “LOVE ME BETTER” Seminar is in line with that belief, where we will have a panel of speakers making presentations on how we can better love ourselves as individuals.
What People Can Expect at the Seminar
We have a panel of speakers from various industries (psychologist, dietician, make-up artist and stylist) who will be giving us a full experience on how we can better show love to ourselves; both on the outside as well as on the inside. People should come expectant to walk away with so much information on taking care of your mental health, style tips, health and diet dos & don’ts, make-up tricks and over all self-love empowerment. We will have make-up and style tutorials as well as a talk on how to create a vision board to smash those 2019 goals. We also have other brands who will be show casing on the day as we have stalls available; so, it will also be a full day of shopping.
Why We Do Pop-up Sales
Pop-up sales are a great way for us to not only sell our garments, but also provide an opportunity for us to get feedback from customers, which is very important to us. The platform also creates a great way to collaborate with other brands, share space, and have talks on how we can improve and take our brands forward. We strive to have at least one pop-up sale a month, in varying venues around the country. Other brands we have held pop-up sales with are The Lady Bar (accessories) and Eight8andme (sunglasses brand), and we look forward to growing our circle to include more variety in what we offer customers.
